ENTP at work and best careers
ENTPs light up when a problem is new and nobody knows the answer yet. They are excellent at brainstorming, challenging assumptions and selling a vision. They work best with variety, freedom and smart people to argue with. Repetitive tasks and detailed follow-up are their weak spot, so they do well paired with someone who loves finishing things.

- Journalist
- Inventor or R&D
ENTP in relationships
ENTPs are fun, spontaneous partners who keep life interesting. They show love through attention, humor and shared adventures. They need a partner who enjoys lively discussion and will not take a playful debate as an attack, and they may need to work at consistency and follow-through at home.
Growth tips for ENTPs
- Before you argue a point, ask whether winning it actually helps.
- Pick one idea and stay with it past the boring middle part.
- Write down commitments; your memory is better for ideas than for promises.

Frequently asked questions
How rare is the ENTP personality type?
ENTP is a less common type: about 3.2% of people in the large US sample used for the MBTI Manual, which makes it the 12th most common of the 16 types. In that sample the most common type is ISFJ (13.8%) and the rarest is INFJ (1.5%).
What is the opposite of ENTP?
The opposite type is ISFJ (The Defender), with all four letters reversed. Opposite types see the world very differently, which can cause friction, but in a team they also cover each other's blind spots.
What jobs are good for an ENTP?
Careers that often suit ENTPs include entrepreneur, product manager, marketing strategist, lawyer, journalist and inventor or r&d. The environment matters more than the job title: ENTPs light up when a problem is new and nobody knows the answer yet.
What are the ENTP cognitive functions?
In order, from strongest to least developed: Ne (Extraverted Intuition), Ti (Introverted Thinking), Fe (Extraverted Feeling), Si (Introverted Sensing). The GeekTools test measures the four letters, not the functions, so treat this as background reading.
How do I know if I am an ENTP?
Take the free 48-question MBTI test on GeekTools; it takes about 5 to 7 minutes and shows how strongly you lean on each letter. If a letter is close to 50%, also read the profile of the neighbouring type, such as ENTJ (The Commander).
