ENFJ at work and best careers
ENFJs are at their best leading, teaching or coaching. They read a room quickly, bring out the best in people and rally a group around a shared goal. They enjoy collaborative workplaces with a clear purpose. Cold, conflict-filled or purely numbers-driven environments drain them, and they may take on too many other people's problems.
- Teacher or trainer
- HR manager
- Coach
- Public relations
- Nonprofit director
- Sales or account manager
ENFJ in relationships
ENFJs are caring, generous partners who put real effort into making the relationship work. They remember what matters to you and plan thoughtful gestures. They can focus so much on their partner that their own needs disappear, so a partner who asks "and what do you want?" is a gift to them.
Growth tips for ENFJs

Frequently asked questions
How rare is the ENFJ personality type?
ENFJ is one of the rarest types: about 2.5% of people in the large US sample used for the MBTI Manual, which makes it the 13th most common of the 16 types. In that sample the most common type is ISFJ (13.8%) and the rarest is INFJ (1.5%).
What is the opposite of ENFJ?
The opposite type is ISTP (The Virtuoso), with all four letters reversed. Opposite types see the world very differently, which can cause friction, but in a team they also cover each other's blind spots.
What jobs are good for an ENFJ?
Careers that often suit ENFJs include teacher or trainer, hr manager, coach, public relations, nonprofit director and sales or account manager. The environment matters more than the job title: ENFJs are at their best leading, teaching or coaching.
What are the ENFJ cognitive functions?
In order, from strongest to least developed: Fe (Extraverted Feeling), Ni (Introverted Intuition), Se (Extraverted Sensing), Ti (Introverted Thinking). The GeekTools test measures the four letters, not the functions, so treat this as background reading.
How do I know if I am an ENFJ?
Take the free 48-question MBTI test on GeekTools; it takes about 5 to 7 minutes and shows how strongly you lean on each letter. If a letter is close to 50%, also read the profile of the neighbouring type, such as ENFP (The Campaigner).
